The vision of Heritage began in 1972 under the leadership of Jack McDaniel who was the pastor of Farley Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie. The vision was birthed in anticipation of a population growth to the north of Waxahachie. The land for Heritage was purchased then for $45k.
It wasn't until the fall of 1985 that construction began on a new sanctuary. On February 16, 1986, forty adults and children from Farley Street met for the first time at the home of Dan & Fannie Mae Stanley just to the east of the church building site. Roy McLaughlin was selected as the first pastor of Heritage. Under his leadership in the new sanctuary the church grew quickly. In 1992 the church completed the educational wing for $400K.
In 1994, Heritage elected their second pastor, Bro. J.D. Courtney. Along with leadership in evangelism, during his 7 years as pastor, Bro. J.D. led Heritage in discipleship and fellowship. He also challenged Heritage to become debt free. In a matter of 3 years, Heritage paid off around $300,000 in building debt and expanded the current auditorium.
In 2001, the church elected Tim Gibson to be the third pastor of Heritage. It was under his leadership in 2008 that the Church built a gymnasium and educational building which included sixteen new classrooms, a weight room, & full size gym. Trying not to go into debt, the members raised over $500K. In 2009, the church voted to take out a small loan to finish a large portion of the gym. By the grace of God, the loan was cut in half in just two years. Overall, the project has proven to reveal the faithfulness of God in providing for every need.
The church voted in May 2010 to adopt a new constitution in an attempt to structure the church in a more biblical manner instituting a new Elder form of government. In October of 2010 the church ordained its first Elder council. The Church is growing steadily with those who have caught the vision that the Word of God is supreme and it alone is the only source of truth and the only guide for the practice of the Church.
In January 2012, Pastor Tim & Elders approached the Waxahachie Preparatory Academy about using the Church's facilities to house the school. After two months of much prayer and discussion, an agreement was reached by committees from both parties and accepted by the Church in March 2012. The addition of WPA has helped to make many improvements to the facilities and bring the Family Life Center closer to completion.
In December 2012 the Church elected Sam Bradley to be the fourth pastor of Heritage. And the mission continues...
